Introduction

The Independent Association of Prep Schools is the professional association for Heads and Deputy Heads of the leading 600 independent prep schools in the UK and worldwide.

Wide variety

One of the key strengths of IAPS is the wide variety of schools within its membership - from single-sex to co-ed day schools; those offering full or flexi-boarding arrangements; schools with particular religious affiliations; and many that offer special educational provision or facilities. IAPS also includes several world-class choir schools.
  All-round excellence in education

What all our schools have in common, however, is a commitment to all-round excellence in education. Though each school has its own ethos, they are all committed to the pursuit of an excellent, well-rounded education - valuing academic success and the personal development of each individual child through an unrivalled range of opportunities in sport, music, modern and classical languages, art, drama, science, technology, and the early years.
We share a strong conviction that excellence across all these areas depends on schools being free - unfettered by government interference and with fewer financial and other resourcing constraints than state schools - to ensure that their educational provision is tailored to the needs of individual children. This may mean stretching the brightest children; or it may mean dedicating special support or resources to children with particular needs. Whatever the focus, the aim of all our member schools is to provide a challenging, purposeful education that makes a tangible difference to children's development and future opportunity.
