IAPS has over 30 overseas member schools, with an operating District of ten members in Kenya. We are keen to encourage IAPS membership around the world and Penelope Kirk, Head of Prince’s Mead School, along with Robert Blake, Chairman of District K (Kenya) and Head of Peponi House, maintain links.
Overseas schools have accreditation in the usual way, through fulfilling membership criteria and achieving strong inspection reports. There are opportunities for overseas members to meet as a group at annual conference and they can access IAPS training courses through the road show system (see training sections of our website). We also recommend distance learning courses such as the MA from the University of Cumbria and other assessment-only routes to qualifications which are accessible to overseas schools.
Many of our overseas schools are also members of COBIS.
We are keen to ensure that IAPS remains in touch with our overseas members. Do let us know if there are ways by which we can support more effectively: jlr@iaps.org.uk
IAPS is pleased to advise Heads overseas, who may be considering membership of IAPS, of an international mentoring service offered by a small team of IAPS approved consultants. These are trained mentors who have first-hand experience of leadership in international schools. They aim to provide a bespoke service to support and advise Heads in schools overseas wishing to seek membership of IAPS.
Working in conjunction with the IAPS Membership Officer, an international mentor would be able to assist you in assessing your school’s current suitability for membership and support you in moving towards your goal of IAPS accreditation.
Initially, contact with the mentor would be by telephone. Subsequently, video conferences, skype conversations or visits can be arranged according to requirements.
If you wish to contact IAPS with a view to accessing this service, please email Jill Wharfe on jw@iaps.org. Jill will give you further details of the mentors with whom you can discuss your requirements. Any contract for services would be entered into directly with the consultants who will be able to provide you with details of their fees.
A mentoring service is also available to existing overseas members. Please go to the “Mentoring for Heads” page in the members’ area for further details.
The University of Cumbria offers an assessment-only/online/by correspondence MA which would be accessible for our overseas schools.
