Sport

IAPS believes passionately in the importance of sport as part of an all round education for its pupils. The breadth of choice provided and the excellence of facilities available gives us an outstanding opportunity to introduce your child to the world of physical activity that is so important to their well-being.

Many Olympic stars and national representatives in a vast array of sports began their careers in IAPS schools where their enthusiasm and talent were first nurtured. However first and foremost sport is about participation and enjoyment. It should be seen as an important part, but only a part, of the personal development of each child.

IAPS hosts a wide range of sporting events each year, which are hugely popular with pupils. Your child can compete in swimming galas, sailing regattas, football and rugby tournaments, travel overseas to ski for their school, or try their hand at some of the more unusual offerings – judo, orienteering or fencing.

Please note that all entries to IAPS sporting competitions are managed by the school. Parents are not able to enter their child individually.

News, photos and results from recent events are available here, just choose your sport on the left hand menu.

Famous Sporting Stars

Did you know that two-thirds of Team GB for the 2012 London Olympic Games were educated at Independent Schools?

The important emphasis that the independent sector places on sport and creative disciplines such as drama, music and art, mean that our pupils leave school as confident, well-rounded individuals.

Sportingalumni.com was set up by Tim Lowe, ex-Headmaster of Hereford Cathedral Junior School. It catalogues famous sporting stars from independent schools and allows you to search by sport, school or specific sportsperson.

For example, did you know that rugby legend Lawrence Dallaglio went to Kings House School in Richmond? Or that spin bowler Monty Panesar learnt his skills at Bedford Modern Junior School?

British Tennis Champ Tim Henman OBE attended Dragons School in Oxford, cricketer David Gower went to Malborough House Prep and Millfield has produced a host of sporting stars including Olympic swimmer Duncan Goodhew MBE, tennis player and presenter Andrew Castle and England all-round cricketer Ben Hollioke.
